Introduction

Hi my name is Kane Godfrey, I am a junior at Bowling Green State University and study in Sports Management. I want to minor in Marketing and focus on that when I graduate. My dream job would be to work for Nike or Under Armour and market for one of these companies. The reason I chose to go into the sports industry is because sports has always been a part of my life. I have participated in football, basketball, and baseball from a young age, until I graduated high school. Recently I have picked up golf and I enjoy golfing during the summers. I have also found great interest in competitive fishing, and have started a competitive fishing club team at BGSU. The team is very eager to participate in a league that has been formed for college anglers to compete in fishing collegefishing.com.

The female athlete that I would pay to go watch participate would be Diana Taurasi. Diana is one of the greatest female basketball stars that I have ever seen play. When she was on the Uconn Huskies team I really enjoyed watching them play. She is a very great scorer, inside and out. She also is a great team player and shares the ball well. I have always like watching the Uconn girls team play because they always have great success until this year when they played a very tough Baylor team with Brittney Griner. I believe that the WNBA deserves more attention than they receive. With all the great players that already are in the league and some of the ones that will be in the league soon they should get more attention.

The male athlete that I chose to pick in class was Tom Brady. After thinking about this after class I decided to change my male athlete. The person that I would pay the most money to see in their sport would have been Muhammad Ali. After talking a lot about Muhammad Ali last semester in my history and philosophy class I am a big fan of him. He was, in my opinion, the greatest boxer ever. Not only was he a great boxer he was a great role model for African Americans at the time and stood up for himself. He was a huge part in breaking the color barrier in America. I wish I was alive when he was boxing because that would have been an amazing thing to see. Also going along with this Happy 70th Birthday to Muhammad Ali, today is his birthday!

For this class I am honestly very excited to learn more about gender in sports. After looking over the readings that we have to do each and every one of them sounds interesting to me and I am excited for the class discussions over them.

Introduction

My name is Nick Daverio, I am a junior. I am from Massillon, Ohio which is about 10 minutes away from Canton, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I played golf and tennis in high school. My favorite sports are golf, tennis, basketball, football, and soccer. I would like to work in the golf field after I graduate or become a sport agent.

My list of male athletes I would pay to see include: Rafael Nadal, Ray Allen, Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Cam Newton, Andre Johnson, Jack Nicklaus, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Alexander Pato. I would want to see Nadal play because he is my favorite tennis player and he plays with so much emotion and leaves everything on the court during a match. I would want to see Ray Allen play because he is my favorite basketball player and he is such a great shooter and plays the game hard and never gives up. I want to see Derrick Rose play because he is such an amazing athlete and one of the best PGs and players in the league. He puts so much effort into the game. Dwight Howard is simply the most dominate player in the league on offense and defense and that is why I would pay to see him play. Even though Cam Newton has only been in the NFL for a year, I would pay to see him play because he is such a great athlete all-around and might be the next Mike Vick in the league. I would pay to see Andre Johnson play because the Texans are my favorite team and he is also my favorite football player. He is the best wide receiver in the league and just plays the game with such ease and makes the difficult look easy. Golf is my favorite sport and I have seen my two favorite golfers, Tiger Woods & Rickie Fowler, play but never got the chance to see Jack Nicklaus play in his prime winning 18 majors. I’m a big soccer fan and would pay to see Pirlo, Villa, and Pato play because they are my favorite players and play the game the way soccer is meant to by putting it on all the pitch.

My list of female athletes I would pay to see include: Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Skylar Diggins, Alex Morgan, and Hope Solo. I would want to see Serena and Maria play because they both play the game with so much emotion and when they are at the top of their game they dominate. I would want to see Natalie Gulbis play because she is my favorite woman golfer and I would also pay to see Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel play because all three of them are great athletes and golfers and play the game with such grace and always give it their all. I would pay to see Skylar Diggins play because she goes to my favorite school, Notre Dame, and plays the point amazingly and is a great team player and knows what to do on the court. I would pay to see Alex Morgan and Hope Solo play because they are the best at their positions in soccer and put so much effort into the game and leave it all on the pitch.

introduction

My name is Trent Ringle, I am a senior here at BGSU in my last semester. I am from the small town of Norwalk, Ohio that is about 15 minutes away from Cedar Point. At Norwalk, I was a three-sport athlete participating in football, wrestling, and track in 2007 I went to state in track. Sport Management is not the major I am taking. I am a Telecommunication major doing a support field in Sport Management. Even though I am not a SM major, I feel that in this course sports and gender I will able to contribute to our discussions because of my background in sports.
In my own opinion, I define sports as a physical activity one participates in where they exert a certain amount of force to do so. When this is the case, I believe that an activity can be classified as a true sport. When thinking of what male and female athlete I would like to see participate in their respected sports I would choose Kevin Durant and Abby Wambach. The reason I pick Abby Wambach is that I viewed her performance against China in the Women’s World Cup. After looking her up and reading about her I really like the dedication an amount of passion she puts forth in the sport she plays. The male athlete Kevin Durant has been a player I have followed for a while. When he played at Texas, I thought he was a great college basketball player and his skill level always seems to be one level up from his opponents.
In an overall conclusion, I am very eager and excited for this course to get underway. I think it is a very interesting topic that we will be talking about and look forward to seeing where the course leads us.

Athletes I most want to see... Jared King

The two athletes I wanted to see we're Satchel Paige and Hope Solo. Both are or we're phenomenal athletes that help put their sports on the map. Along with physical ability both have primarily stayed away from negative press.

Satchel Paige was one of the best pitchers alive during his time. He dominated in both the Negro Leagues as well as Major League Baseball well into his fifties. I would just love to see him overpower hitters with his high velocity fastball and precise location. He also played for my beloved Cleveland Indians.

Hope Solo help rejuvenate women's soccer this past summer. She was an exciting and charismatic athlete to watch. She also is in phenomenal shape and is very attractive. The world cup was a blast watching as Hope and the other women displayed great heart and passion for their sport.

My favorite sport is baseball and then football. I played two years of college baseball at Ohio Northern University until I blew out my second knee making it impossible to catch anymore. I played four years of football and baseball at my alma mater, Fremont Ross High School as well.

Now a days I coach baseball back at Fremont Ross. I am the assistant varsity coach in charge of pitching and catching. I love what I do and hope to continue when I get established in a school as a special education teacher.
