The Jordan effect By Trent Ringle
The Jordan effect is a term I feel that has reached many
lives, and brought a great deal of opportunity to those who have experienced
it. This is a concept that has arisen
from the unbelievable career of Michael Jordan. From his athletic career he has
touched the lives of hundreds of thousands both on a off the court. The question
I want to bring up is if he is the only person who has done this so called “Jordan
Effect”. In addition, from what he started have other athletes tried to take
the same path? MJ has his own clothing
line, shoes, race team, has been in films, and endorsed hundreds of commercials
for different products. However, there are both pros and cons to this.
Pros
Money grossed by others from MJ’s
fame
The attention given to Chicago
when he played professional ball
The image of Michael Jordan that
companies will use for years to come
Cons
Bad publicity could hurt his
image and the industry
Just because it’s his brand does
not mean it’s the best option for you
I believe that Jordan has done something that no one else will ever do. Jordan jumped off the papers with this high intensity basketball skill and made people feel amazed. Everyone wanted a piece of Jordan. Still to this day Jordan fans are recklessly wild. They will do anything to get their hands on a piece of Jordan memorabilia, especially his shoes.

To this day I don't think anyone else can do what he has done. I believe that there are people that are just as good as him in some ways of the basketball aspect. The game of basketball though has completely changed. On the other hand no one is getting as many endorsers now because there are so many good players and it is split up between them all. Not all the companies go after one good athlete like they did for Jordan. So Jordan will live on forever as the greatest "basketball" player ever, when in doubt it was more than just basketball that made him great.

DeleteThere will never be another Michael Jordan with all he has done. If you look at history you can say Jim Brown had movies before Michael and Mean Joe Greene had endorsement deals before Michael but no athlete has ever had endorsements, movies, their own products, and own two different sports teams. It is a rarity and in my opinion will never happen again. Michael is a special breed of an athlete and a special breed of a person. Comment by Jared King.
DeleteThe Jordan Effect is something special and I find it hard to believe that we will ever see anyone have that effect on society as Michael did. I believe that Tiger and LeBron had a chance to come close to the Jordan Effect but due to their recent problems in past years that will be hard to overcome now. Michael knew what it took to be successful on and off the court and that is very hard to come by today. MJ was the perfect role model for kids growing up and helped boost the economy because of his performance on the court and his business aspect off the course. Again, LeBron is trying to become that type of person I feel but "The Decision" has hurt his chances very much so. Even though I was not greatly affected by his choice and do not hate him like a lot of people in Ohio do, I think that if he continues to put up the numbers he does and gets better year after year and ends up winning multiple titles wherever he plays has a chance to reach the effect of the Jordan Effect.

I agree with Nick. I also believe that LeBron and Tiger had the best chance of replicating what Michael did until their issues came along. It doesn't take long to tarnish your name and those two figured that out. Michael Jordan was so successful because he figured out how to stay clean throughout his years. While I agreed with Nick's earlier statement I have to disagree that even if LeBron continues to put up numbers and win some rings, I feel he will never reach the Jordan Effect. I just feel it is too late for him and this isn't coming from a salty Cavs fan. He is one of the most hated players in sport and the more successful he is the more people are going to hate him. Michael was never nationally hated like LeBron is today. As long as LeBron is still in the league and hated by many then I feel he will never reach the Jordan Effect. Comment by Jared King.
